After several cancellations due to the COVID19 pandemic, the 13th edition of the Bone Morphogenetic Proteins (BMP) International Conference was celebrated during the past October, 7th-12th 2022 in Dubrovnik (Croatia). The program included oral and poster presentations covering broad topics within the biology of BMPs, from their role in human disease to recent insights into BMP receptor signalling, gene regulation and related structural biology. Special recognition was given to Prof. Peter ten Dijke (Chemical Signaling), who received the “Marshall Urist Lecture” award for his pioneering advances in TGF-b, Activin and BMP receptor signalling. From the CCB Cardiovascular Cell Biology team, Dr. Gonzalo Sanchez-Duffhues was awarded with the “Marshall Urist BMP Young Investigator” award for his contribution to the BMP field and the lecture entitled “In vitro modelling of endothelial function through TGF-β signalling” in the session “New voices in BMP research”.
