Assistant professor Baoxu Pang has been awarded a 1.75 million euros Starting Grant from the European Research Council (ERC). He will use the money to systematically study repressive elements in human DNA, or what he calls ‘the dark side of the genome’.

In our new study, now publicly available in Science, we identify a molecular pore that spans the double membrane of the coronavirus replication organelle and likely serves as an RNA export channel. This protein complex would provide the long sought connection between the interior of the replication organelle and the cytosol, and offers a new target for antiviral drug development.
