Research:

I am interested in the mechanisms of developmental gene regulation in mammals. Using model systems such as mouse embryonic stem cells, human induced pluripotent stem cells and their differentiated derivatives, I aim to understand what drives differential gene expression during development and which regulators establish cellular identity.

Curriculum Vitae:

I started my PhD in 2014 in the lab of Vincent Christoffels at Amsterdam UMC, where I genetically dissected the regulatory landscapes of key heart developmental genes, as well as the epigenetic control of tissue-specific regulatory element activity. For this, I combined molecular biology, developmental genetics and CRISPR/Cas9 engineering in mouse models. I then moved abroad for a postdoc at EMBL Heidelberg, followed by a year at the Francis Crick Institute in London, in the lab of Edith Heard. There, I investigated the regulatory principles of monoallelic expression, with a particular focus on X-chromosome inactivation and autosomal random monoallelic expression using molecular genetics, genomics and perturbation approaches in mouse embryonic stem cells. During my postdoc, I was awarded a joint EMBL–Stanford Bridging Excellence fellowship. I recently joined the lab of Joost Gribnau as a senior research scientist.
