MSc Alessio Ciurli
Research:
Alessio Ciurli, PhD candidate at the Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC), is currently working on metabolomic profiling of saliva using LC-MSMS with untargeted approach. The main project regards the profiling of the oral cavity biochemical network and microbiome composition, with the purpose to determine causality of biological alteration among different biological strata such as genomics and metabolomics. The final goal is related to study the oral cavity environment in patients with head and neck cancer. The project is supported by the Oncode Institute and is carried out by a task force comprised members from the Chemical Immunology Dept. (J.J.C. Neefjes), the Center for Proteomics & Metabolomics (A. Ciurli, M.A. Giera), the Medical Microbiology Dept. (R.D. Zwittink, Q.R. Ducarmon, E.J. Kuijper), and the Medical Oncology Dept. (M. Slingerland).
Curriculum Vitae:
Alessio Ciurli started his academic career at the University of Pisa, where he completed the bachelor degree in Biological sciences. Later on, he followed the master in Biological sciences at the University of Camerino for the first year of the master and at the Technical University of Munich for the second year, where he completed his master project relative to a Kinetic profiling of the blood metabolome of human subjects during a prolonged fasting challenge. After complete his studies, Alessio performed 5 months internship in the Metabolomics group at the Center for Proteomics and Metabolomics (CPM) - Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC).
