As a result the nuclei of photoreceptor cell protruded into the inner/outer segment layer leading to destabilization of the subapical region (SAR). In addition more MGC apical villi were detected in the central retina of these mice while at the peripheral retina, the MGC apical villi did not extend among the photoreceptor inner segments but collapsed in on themselves due to lack of support.
