ERA-CVD JTC grant for Dr. Konda Babu Kurakula

Dr. Konda Babu Kurakula received an ERA-CVD JTC grant of € 300.000 from EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation ‘Horizon 2020’. In this grant, Dr. Kurakula aims to understand the mechanisms underlying the female predominance in pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) together with his collaborators Dr. Slaven (Graz, Austria) and Dr. Paulin (Quebec, Canada). Dr. Kurakula will use unique pulmonary cells from male and female PAH patients, and validate the findings using male and female animal models of PAH.

ERA-CVD JTC grant for Dr. Konda Babu Kurakula

Dr. Konda Babu Kurakula from the lab of cardiovascular cell biology group, headed by Prof. Marie Jose Goumans, focusses on the unravelling the molecular mechanisms in pulmonary vascular remodelling in pulmonary arterial hypertension. He aims to identify and characterize several druggable targets that play crucial role in the pulmonary vascular remodeling using patient cells and animal models in collaboration with (inter)national researchers, and trying to translate these findings to the clinic with the help of clinicians. Based on his recent research findings, two PAH clinical trails have been initiated at AUMC (location VUmc), Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and at Laval University, Canada.
