To our deep regret, we let you know that Edwin Willemstein passed away today (July 10th , 2020) from AML at the age of 26. Edwin was a great technician in the Alfred Vertegaal lab where he worked on SUMO and its consequences for a host of biological processes. He was one of the pillars in the lab and will be greatly missed. Early March he became seriously ill and was diagnosed with AML. We will miss him enormously as a committed, dedicated, friendly and happy team member who devoted heart and soul to science. Edwin was also the lab manager for the team. He was the ideal colleague and friend who was full of plans in many areas. He married in the hospital this year. Soccer was another fascination and he inspired us as fanatic team captain of our soccer team ‘the eternal talents’. We have now lost our best ‘eternal talent’ but we will remember him forever for his many contributions to the lab and the many friendships.
We wish his wife Suzanne, his family and friends strength in coping with this great loss.
