In a wonderful team effort with Hinck and Maizels labs, we now show that the helminth parasite that secretes the immunosuppressive functional TGF-β mimic delivers immune specific responses by binding to CD44 coreceptor. This unexpected perspective adopted by the helminth parasite by coevolution with its host may allow for new therapeutic strategies on how to enhance, modulate or inhibit human TGF-β signaling in a cell type specific manner.
