Enterovirus replication sets up camp in the Golgi in the absence of replication organelles, challenging the paradigm that these virus-induced membrane rearrangements are indispensable for genome replication and innate immune evasion. The membrane-supported replication strategy of enterovirus extends to other important human pathogens, like SARS and MERS coronaviruses, hepatitis C viruses and Zika virus.
