ZonMw funding of 750,000 euros for Monitoring cellular stress in insulin-producing cells by live imaging

In Type 1 diabetes the islets of Langerhans are destroyed, the triggering mechanisms remains unclear. Using state of the art fluorescent and electron microscopy, Dr Arnaud Zaldumbide (LUMC), Dr Ben Giepmans (UMC Groningen) and Dr Elizabeth Carroll (TU Delft) will investigate the impact of exocrine cell damage on insulin producing cell destruction in living fish larvae.
