Dr. Rob F. Lammers
Research:
I am interested in biochemical networks and their relationship with physiological processes and pathological functions in disease. As a chemist, I can design and synthesize molecules that interrogate or manipulate biology, to understand these processes and target pathological mechanisms. In 2026, I joined the lab of Gerbrand van der Heden van Noort to study crosstalk between two such biochemical networks: the ubiquitin system and ADP-ribosylation. The DNA repair response integrates these biochemical networks to coordinate this highly complex response. I am developing activity-based probes to interrogate crosstalk between these biochemical networks and aim to understand this crosstalk in DNA repair.
Curriculum Vitae:
I studied Life Science & Technology (BSc) and Chemistry (BSc and MSc) at the University of Groningen. For my Bachelor’s theses, I worked on RNA polymerase inhibitors for the treatment of Mycobacterium tuberculosis infections at the Helmholtz Institute for Pharmaceutical Research Saarland, and on photoactivatable HDAC inhibitors at the University of Groningen. In 2019, I joined the Minnaard group in Groningen for my Master’s thesis on the total synthesis of a natural product from the cell wall of Mycobacterium tuberculosis and in 2020 the Noël group on C-H amination in continuous flow.
In 2021 I started my PhD research in the Artola group in the Leiden Institute of Chemistry, in which I worked on the development of covalent inhibitors, activity-based probes and degraders for interrogation and treatment of lysosomal storage disorders.
In 2026, I started as a postdoctoral researcher at the LUMC under the supervision of Gerbrand van der Heden van Noort, where I am studying crosstalk between ADP-ribosylation and the ubiquitin system in the context of DNA repair.
