Zary Forghany

PhD-student

Research:

I’m last year PhD student in the group of Dr. David Baker in Department of Cell and Chemical Biology in LUMC. My study mainly focus on Angiogenesis which is the formation of blood vessels from the existing vasculature. Most of my research has been dedicated on studying  the pathways that govern angiogenesis.  DLL4/Notch signaling which is a fundamental pathway in angiogenesis is our main focus in the lab in the last four years. Furthermore, in collaboration with European lead factory a high throughput screen has been done to identify small molecules inhibitors of ETS transcription factor which potentially can be used as a target for anti-tumor therapy. To test these molecules, a number of complementary investigations were undertaken including molecular and biochemical assays, 3-D culture of primary human endothelial cells, metatarsal assays  and in vivo study in zebrafish.

Curriculum Vitae:

I completed my Master, studying and exploring zebrafish as a model organism for potential cancer therapeutic target, in Leiden University in the laboratory of Prof Herman Spaink, and Prof Ewa Snaar-Jagalska. I then moved to the Dr.  Baker group as a Master student and continued as a PhD student working on angiogenesis which is a known hallmark of cancer.  During my study I focus on exploring  Dll4 signalling which is one of the principle pathways underlying blood vessel formation and dedicated my time to explore transcriptional and posttranscriptional regulation of Dll4. In addition being involve in discovery of novel anti-angiogenesis drug is one of highlighted part of my PhD period.
