MSc Miriam Casacuberta

RESEARCH

I am a PhD candidate in the Clinical Parasitology group at the dept. of Parasitology as well as the Controlled Human Infection Center and supervised by prof. dr. Meta Roestenberg and dr. Lisette van Lieshout, with solid collaboration with the Near Patient Diagnostics group of dr. ir. Paul Corstjens at the dept. of Cell and Chemical Biology. My investigation has a focus on schistosomiasis and its diagnostics based on circulating antigens. A range of projects from field work, controlled human infections to rodent work with the aim to understand better the interpretation of the diagnostic tests.

CURRICULUM VITAE

In 2011 I received my Bachelor in Biology at the University of Girona and in 2014 my Msc in Parasitology at the University of Copenhagen. In 2013 I did my internship at the Veterinary group in Sardinia working on Leishmania and echinococcosis and did my Msc. thesis in Tanzania on schistosomiasis. Thereafter I worked as research assistant at the Veterinary Parasitology dept. on pig parasites. In 2016 I moved to Saint Kitts and Nevis to work on monkey parasites and evaluating diagnostic techniques. In 2017 I moved to Leiden to join my current position.
