Research:

A striking effect of tau-pathology is the disruption of the compartments of the highly connected auto- and endo-lysosomal pathways. In healthy cells, these pathways are regulated by de-ubiquitinating enzymes (DUBs) that provide a regulatory switch by modulating ubiquitin signals. The main focus of my PhD research is the role of DUBs in tau-induced dysfunction of the neural auto- and endo-lysosomal system. I am investigating whether there are changes in neural DUB activity upon tau-aggregation and what the target proteins are of these DUBs with an altered activity. Aside from my main research project I am involved in diverse side projects. These include the development of 2D and 3D neural cell cultures derived from iPSCs and investigating the cellular effects of the H284D mutation in UBE2J1 ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme.

Curriculum Vitae:

In August 2023, I completed my Master’s degree in Biomolecular Sciences at the VU University in Amsterdam. During my degree I specialized myself in Biological Chemistry and Molecular Cell Biology. I had the opportunity to conduct two internships during this time. I performed my first internship in the Erasmus Medical Center, where I investigated the inter individual differences in glucocorticoid recepter sensitivity in an obese patient cohort through trans-activation and trans-repression target genes. I performed my second internship in the Netherlands Cancer Institute. The aim of this research was to investigate complex formation in the eukaryotic mismatch repair system. I studied MutLa-PCNA interactions on DNA.
