PhD Angeliki Moutsiopoulou

I got trained as an organic chemist but during my PhD, I mainly focused on biological chemistry. I developed detection systems with luciferase proteins to achieve sensitive, selective and reproducible assays. Currently I am working in the Protein Facility which is collaborated with different researchers. Our goal is the expression/purification of their protein of interest, analysis with various biophysical methods and troubleshooting the possible problems.

I completed my Bachelor degree in Chemistry in 2011 and I accomplished my postgraduate studies - MSc in Synthetic Chemistry - in 2014 at University of Patras, Greece. During my Master, I was working in a Polymer Laboratory and my project was focused on the development of polymeric nanosensors. During my PhD at University of Miami, I was working in a Molecular Biology and Biochemistry laboratory where I expanded my research knowledge in chemical biology. I got involved mainly into two projects which were the design of bioluminescent biological detection systems with bioorthogonal chemistry by conjugating different biomolecules (oligonucleotides, antibodies, proteins). Besides the synthesis of different organic molecules (crosslinkers), I got trained also on molecular biology procedures to clone and express several proteins from bacterial and mammalian cultures.
