Gerard A. Bouland

Data analyst

Research:

As a bioinformatician I am interested in uncovering associations between different types of data/omics, which might reveal something about a biological process. For my bachelor thesis, I investigated the association between fasting glucose and whole blood microRNA expression and the aberrant expression of downstream biological pathways in individuals with Type 2 Diabetes. This revealed microRNAs that are associated with known Type 2 Diabetes pathways.

Curriculum Vitae:

I studied bioinformatics at the University of Applied Sciences in Leiden (Hogeschool Leiden). I did my final internship at CCB – groep Leen ‘t Hart. During this internship I developed an R-package for the quality control and normalization of NanoString nCounter data, additionally, I researched the regulation of microRNAs on gene expression levels in individuals with Type 2 Diabetes. Currently I hold a position as Data analyst / Bioinformatician. I am also doing my masters in Computer Science (Bioinformatics track) at Leiden University and TU Delft.
