The Vertegaal lab employs state-of-the-art mass spectrometry methods to probe post-translational modifications of proteins, with a focus on SUMO. Using the vast amount of data obtained from mass spectrometry experiments we pinpoint interesting targets and conduct further biochemical assays such as enzymatic in-vitro experiments, protein-protein interaction assays or advanced microscopy. Finally, we recapitulate our findings of molecular actions in relevant mouse models with the aim to translate our knowledge to clinical practice.
About the Vertegaal lab
We are interested in unraveling signaling by SUMO, a ubiquitin-like modification predominantly found in nuclei of proliferating cells.
