Msc. Bianca D. M. van Tol

Research:

During my master study in chemical biology, I joined to Ovaa lab to learn how to combine my organic chemistry knowledge with chemical biology techniques to study the ubiquitin system in vitro. I mainly create chemical tools to study ubiquitin and deubiquitinating enzymes (DUBs). My first project was the synthesis of FRET-based diubiquitin probes with which we quantified the linkage specificity of DUBs. During my PhD, I started off with the synthesis of fully synthetic linear diubiquitin, which has never been published before. I will continue to study the kinetics of DUBs in the presence of different ubiquitin linkages and synthesize novel activity based probes to study ubiquitin proteases.

Curriculum Vitae:

I studied Molecular Science and Technology (BSc) and Chemistry (MSc) at the University of Leiden and obtained my MSc degree in June 2016, cum laude. In 2015, I joined the lab of Huib Ovaa at the NKI for my MSc internship where I developed synthetic FRET-based probes to study the activity and specificity of deubiquitinating enzymes. After a short break, which I filled with teaching Chemistry in high school, I started my PhD in the Ovaa group in April 2017, where I work on the development of ubiquitin tools to study the ubiquitin system.

In fall 2020 Bianca joined the Centre for Proteomics at the LUMC (Leiden) as post-doctoral scientist.
