Msc. Dharjath Ahamed Shahul Hameed
Research:
I did my MSc in Biomolecular Sciences, specialized in cell biology. On joining the lab of Huib Ovaa, I was trained in the synthesis of Ubiquitin (Ub) proteins, short peptides and other simple unnatural aminoacids which were used in solid phase peptide synthesis. After my short spell of being a technician, working mainly on synthesis of diubiquitins (diUb), I started my PhD research on more challenging aspects of Ub chemistry. My research spans the areas of development of ubiquitin conjugates including ubiquitin-peptide conjugates and diubiquitins; isotopic-labeled diUb molecules; synthetic cell-permeable Ub conjugates and Ub-based probes for all class of deubiquitinases. In addition, I also work on the development of peptide-based inhibitors for deubiquitinases. My expertise is the combination of peptide synthesis and its application in cell biology, which facilitates a better understanding of ubiquitin biology.
Curriculum Vitae:
I did my B.Tech in Industrial Biotechnology from Anna University, India. After graduating as MSc in Biomolecular Sciences from Vrije University in 2010, I started working as a technician in the lab of Huib Ovaa at the Netherlands Cancer Institute, Amsterdam. I then continued my research as a PhD graduate student, specializing in peptide synthesis and development of probes and assay reagents. My thesis is about how Ub chemistry helps to better understand the biology of Ub. After 2 years of continuing my research as post-doctoral fellow I am now in the process of transitioning to industry.
